While staying in a rented house in Fruita, Colorado my attention was repeatedly drawn to the nearby Middle School building. Brick structures have fascinated me since trying my hand at bricklaying as a kid, I quickly learnt to value the skill needed to accurately place each brick in pattern. The original school building, completed in 1936, was designed by Temple Hoyne Buell and is a great example of public work Moderne architecture. In the 1950’s a new wing was added to the original structure.
